Synopsis:

The court house was built in 1924 and updated in 2001. The courtroom's built-in technology was limited to a projection screen and a semi-functional microphone system. Pre-trial support consisted of imaging and branding 150 documents and assembling trial binders to streamline trial presentation. Sanction was used to present both depositions and documents in the courtroom. Presentation of deposition and trial testimony played a large role in the outcome as experts and fact witnesses on the plaintiff side were inconsistent on numerous occasions. During one key moment in the trial, one plaintiff expert refused to agree with a prior piece of trial testimony from another plaintiff expert. Plaintiff presented exhibits through the use of a document camera which worked at times, but at others was cumbersome and slow. This was in stark contrast to the coordinated approach of defense which was complimented as both time-saving and informative by the jury in a debriefing session following the verdict. Opening was developed and rehearsed with counsel to create a seamless presentation of the facts we planned to present. Closing consisted of a rehash of many of the themes from opening interspersed with excerpts of trial testimony.
